The IPL 2023 mini-auction is done and dusted and RCB, as a squad is a pretty settled unit. However, what did that management do to put us in this situation in the first place, Let's find out!
RCB almost bid for everyone which included the likes of Mayank Agarwal, who in my opinion we should have gone all-out, considering the fact that we need an Indian opener to open the innings alongside Faf, and he would have been the perfect fit for the slot.
We also bid for Ben Stokes, Manish Pandey, Cameron Green and even Sam Curran.
So, we signed Reece Topley for 1.9 crores as a backup pacer for Josh Hazlewood. Reece Topley, however, is prone to injuries and often gets injured. In my opinion, this is s good signing but we could have gotten a better option like Joshua Little, a left-arm pacer from Ireland, who was in good form at the T20 WC this year an has good variations like the slower yorker. We also signed a lot of domestic players like Himanshu Sharma, Manoj Bandage, Rajan Kumar, Avinash Singh, Sonu Yadav, and Will Jacks.
The opening slot is an area of concern as Virat Kohli will have to open since we haven't gotten any openers. This isn't a bad option on paper as Virat has opened the innings on several occasions before and has even been successful, like the 973-run season in 2016. However, he struggled to score runs last season when he opened the innings alongside Faf. So, we are without a doubt a settled unit and we filled the small gaps like Reece Topley and Will jacks as a replacement for the injured Maxwell.
